Systems are expected to last for well over 25 years, and perhaps up to 60-80. This proven technology is mature, having started with the space program in the early 50’s.  There are no moving parts and maintenance is minimal.  The manufacturers believe in product longevity.   The panel warranty is 25 years and inverter 10 years.

Hawaii has one of the best places for solar electricity in the world.  This is due to 1) high amounts of sun, 2) high electricity rates and 3) a 35% State tax credit.   With the addition of the 30% Federal tax credit, smaller systems can be economical.  Due to the tax credit structure, smaller systems are promoted most.

Hawaii is blessed with great sunshine.   How much does your residence receive?   

Shading is a concern.  Trees can be trimmed, but a mountain or neighboring structure can significantly reduce output.

The roof type is also important.  Each type requires a different mounting method.
